非英语专业大学生英语阅读中批判性思维能力培养的实证研究 Introduction Asinternationalizationbecomesmoreprevalentintoday'sworld,Englishisincreasinglyrecognizedasanimportantcommunicativeskillforhighereducationstudentsinnon-Englishspeakingcountries.Readingisacrucialcomponentoflanguagelearning,anditisessentialforlearnerstohavetheabilitytoreadcritically.However,criticalreadingisanarduoustaskformanynon-Englishmajorstudents,whichhassignificantimplicationsfortheiracademicperformanceandprofessionaldevelopment.ThisstudyaimstoinvestigatehowtocultivatecriticalthinkingabilityinEnglishreadingfornon-Englishmajorstudentsinhighereducation. Background Criticalreadingisasignificantintellectualskillthatallowsstudentstoengagewithtexts,analyzethem,andevaluatetheirargumentscritically.However,criticalreadingisnotanaturalability;rather,itrequiresasetofknowledgeandskillsthatneedtobeintentionallydevelopedinlearners.Inhighereducation,trainingstudents'criticalthinkingandreadingskillsisessentialtopreparethemforacademicworkandfutureprofessionalpractice. Non-EnglishmajorstudentsinhighereducationoftenexperiencechallengesinlearningEnglishandengagingwithEnglishtextscritically.Studieshaveindicatedthatnon-EnglishmajorstudentstendtohaveweakerEnglishskills,poorbackgroundknowledge,andlimitedcriticalthinkingskills,whichhindertheirabilitytoreadandcomprehendEnglishtexts.Therefore,thereisaneedtodevelopstrategiesthatcansupportnon-EnglishmajorstudentsintheircriticalEnglishreading. Methodology Theresearchemployedamixed-methodsapproach.Aqualitativemethodwasusedtocollectdatafrominterviewsandopen-endedsurveys,whileaquantitativemethodwasusedtocollectdatafromapre-andpost-testofstudents'criticalreadingability.Thesampleinvolved50non-EnglishmajorstudentsinaChineseuniversity.Theparticipantswererandomlyselectedanddividedintoacontrolgroupandanexperimentalgroup.
