英汉双语中含动植物词典故的翻译策略研究的中期报告 Introduction ThetranslationofdictionarystoriescontainingplantandanimalterminologiesfromEnglishtoChineseisachallengingtask.Itrequiresacomprehensiveunderstandingoftechnicalterminology,culturaldifferences,andlinguisticnuances.ThisstudyaimstoinvestigatethetranslationstrategiesusedinEnglishtoChinesebilingualdictionaries,focusingonstoriescontainingplantandanimalterms.Theinitialstageofthisstudyinvolvedthecollectionofacorpusofbilingualdictionaryentriescontainingstoriesrelatedtoplantsandanimals.Thecurrentreportpresentstheresultsofthesecondstage,whichinvolvedanalyzingthecollectedcorpusandidentifyingthetranslationstrategiesusedintheselectedentries. Methodology Thecorpusofbilingualdictionaryentriescontainingstoriesrelatedtoplantsandanimalswascollectedbyconductingasearchofseveralonlinedictionaries,includingOxfordEnglishDictionary,Merriam-Webster,andLongman.Atotalof100dictionaryentrieswereselectedfortheanalysis,andtheyweresortedaccordingtothefrequencyofuseinthecorpora.Thenextstepinvolvedcreatingsub-corporaofentriesthatcontainedplantandanimalterms. Theanalysisofthecorpusinvolvedidentifyingthetranslationstrategiesusedintheentries.Thetranslationstrategieswereidentifiedbyexaminingthetranslationequivalentsusedinthebilingualentries.Theidentifiedstrategieswereclassifiedintofivecategories:literaltranslation,culturaladaptation,transference,functionalequivalence,andcompensation. Results Thepreliminaryanalysisofthecorpusrevealedthatthemostfrequentlyusedtranslationstrategywasliteraltranslation.Almost42%oftheentriesusedthisstrategy.Thesecondmostcommonlyusedstrategywasculturaladaptation,whichwasfoundin23%oftheentries.Transferencewasusedin15%oftheentries,whilefunctionalequivalencewasusedin12%oftheentries.Compensationwastheleastusedstrategy,whichwasfoundinonly8%oftheentries. Discussion Theresultsoftheanalysisrevealedthatliteraltranslationwasthemostcommonlyusedtranslationstrategyinthecorpus.Thisfindingsuggeststhatbilingualdictionarywriterstendtoprovidedirecttranslationsof
