TheDepthofVocabularyKnowledge Thedepthofvocabularyknowledgereferstotheextenttowhichapersonunderstandsaword.Itincludesfourlevels:recognition,production,collocation,andassociation.Recognitionknowledgeistheabilitytorecognizeawordandunderstanditsmeaningincontext.Productionknowledgereferstotheabilitytouseawordcorrectlyinspeakingorwriting.Collocationknowledgemeansknowingthewordsthatawordoftenappearswith.Associationknowledge,ontheotherhand,istheabilitytoassociateawordwithotherwordsorconcepts. TheRelationshipbetweenVocabularyKnowledgeandReadingComprehension Vocabularyknowledgeandreadingcomprehensionareinterrelated.Adeepervocabularyknowledgecanleadtobetterreadingcomprehension.Themorevocabularyoneknows,themorewordstheycanrecognizeinwrittentexts.This,inturn,increasestheirunderstandingofthetext.Additionally,itisimportanttounderstandthedifferenttypesofvocabularyknowledgebecausespecifictypesofvocabularyknowledgearemorerelevanttoreadingcomprehensionthanothers. Recognitionandproductionknowledgeplayanimportantroleinthebasicunderstandingofwrittentexts.Whenreadingatext,readersneedtorecognizethewordsandunderstandtheirmeaningsincontext.Thisisimportantfortheoverallcomprehensionofthetext.Productionknowledge,whilenotasimportantasrecognitionknowledge,stillplaysaroleinreadingcomprehension.Knowledgeofhowtousewordsisnecessarytounderstandtheoverallmeaningofatext.
