功能对等理论视角下的博物馆文本英译失误研究——以上海博物馆文本为例 ResearchonTranslationErrorsinMuseumTextsfromthePerspectiveofEquivalenceTheory:ACaseStudyofShanghaiMuseum Abstract: Museumtextsplayacrucialroleinconveyingknowledgeandinformationtovisitors,particularlyincreatingabridgebetweendifferentcultures.However,thetranslationofmuseumtextscanbechallenging,asitrequiresnotonlylinguisticaccuracybutalsoculturalandcontextualequivalences.Thispaperaimstoanalyzethetranslationerrorsinmuseumtextsfromtheperspectiveofequivalencetheory,usingShanghaiMuseumasacasestudy.Throughtheexaminationoftranslatedmuseumtexts,thisstudyaimstoprovideinsightsintothepotentialchallengesintranslatingmuseumtextsandproposestrategiestoenhancetranslationaccuracyandequivalence. 1.Introduction Museumtextsserveasimportantmeansofcommunicationbetweenmuseumsandtheirvisitors.Theyprovideinformationaboutartifacts,exhibitions,andtheoverallculturalsignificanceofthemuseum.However,theaccuratetranslationofmuseumtextsiscrucialforeffectivecommunication,especiallywhenitinvolvescross-culturalcommunication.Thispaperfocusesonthetranslationerrorsinmuseumtextsandtheirimpactonthetransmissionofinformationandculturalunderstanding. 2.EquivalenceTheoryandMuseumTextTranslation Theconceptofequivalencetheory,introducedbyNidaandTaber(1964),isafundamentalprincipleintranslationstudies.Equivalencereferstofindinganequivalentmeaningbetweenthesourceandtargetlanguageswhileconsideringlinguistic,cultural,andcontextualaspects.Whenappliedtothetranslationofmuseumtexts,theprincipleofequivalencehelpsachieveeffectivecross-culturalcommunicationwithoutdistortingtheoriginalmessage. 3.AnalysisofTranslationErrorsinShanghaiMuseumTexts ThissectionanalyzesthetranslationerrorsinthetextsofShanghaiMuseum,oneofthemostrenownedmuseumsinChina.Throughacarefulexaminationofthecollectedtexts,varioustypesoferrorsareidentified,includinglinguistic,cultural,andconceptualerrors.Linguisticerrorsincludemistranslations,grammarmistakes,andinappropriatewordchoices.Culturalerrorsinvolveinaccuraciesinpresenti
