Introduction Laminatedcompositematerialsarewidelyusedtodayfortheirhighstrength-to-weightratio.Thesematerialsarecommonlycomprisedoflayersoffiberorfabricimpregnatedwitharesinmatrix.However,thedrillingofthesematerialsremainsachallengeduetotheinterlayerdelaminationandtheaccumulationofheatgeneratedduringthedrillingprocess.Toovercomethesedifficulties,anumberofstudieshavefocusedonoptimizingthedrillingparameterssuchasfeedrate,spindlespeed,anddrillbitgeometry. ExperimentalDesign Threetypesofdrillingparameterswereinvestigatedinthisstudy.Theseincludethefeedrate,spindlespeed,anddrillbitgeometry.ATaguchiL9orthogonalarraywasemployedtoplanandperformtheexperiments.Thenineexperimentswererununderthecombinationofthreelevelsoffeedrate(F)at0.05,0.08,and0.11mm/rev,threelevelsofspindlespeed(S)at8000,10000,and12000rpm,andthreelevelsofdrillbitgeometry(G)for2-flute,3-flute,and4-flutedrillbits. ResultsandDiscussion Theresponseparametersmeasuredwerethethrustforce,delaminationlength,andholequality.Theresultsshowthatthefeedratehasthemostsignificanteffectonthethrustforce.Asthefeedrateincreased,thethrustforceincreased.Thespindlespeedanddrillbitgeometryalsohadsignificanteffectsonthethrustforce.Similarly,thedelaminationeffectswerealsosignificantinresponsetothedrillingparameters.Theholequalitywasalsohighlydependentonthedrillingparameters.Theoptimalcombinationofparameterswasfoundtobeafeedrateof0.05mm/rev,spindlespeedof10000rpm,anda4-flutedrillbit.
