《论语》两个英译本的杂合对比研究——以安乐哲和辜鸿铭的译本为例 Introduction TheAnalectsofConfuciusisconsideredasoneofthemostimportantworksinChineseliterature.DuetoitssignificantinfluenceonmodernChinesesocietyandculture,itwastranslatedintovariousforeignlanguages.ThetwomostprominentEnglishtranslationsofTheAnalectsofConfuciusarebyArthurWaleyandJamesLegge.However,inthispaper,wewillcompareandcontrastthetranslationsofAnLeZheandGuHongming.Byexaminingthetranslationsofbothauthors,thepaperaimstoaddresswhichtranslationcapturestheessenceofTheAnalectsofConfucius. TranslationbyAnLeZhe AnLeZhe’stranslationofTheAnalectsofConfuciusisamodernChinesetranslationthatoffersanewperspectiveonthework.HeattemptstoprovideinsightsontheAnalectsthathavenotbeenpreviouslypresentedinothertranslationsofthetext.Unlikeothertranslations,AnLeZheenvisionstheAnalectsasaWesterntext,similartothephilosophicalworksproducedinGreece.Asaresult,AnLeZheprovidesaninterpretationthatfocusesonthephilosophicalcontentofTheAnalects. Intermsofstyle,AnLeZhetriedtokeephistranslationoftheAnalectsasclosetotheoriginalChineseaspossible.Heaimedtoavoidmakingstylisticchangestothetext,whichcouldalteritsmeaning.However,AnLeZhe’stranslationofTheAnalectsdiffersfromothertranslationsduetoitsphilosophy-centeredinterpretationofthetext. AnLeZhealsostatedthatthesignificanceofTheAnalectsliesinitsrelevancetothepresentsocialconditionsofChina.Throughhistranslation,AnLeZheendeavoredtobreakthebarriersthatmayexistbetweenChinesephilosophyandWesternphilosophy.HearguesthatTheAnalectsofConfuciusisnotonlyrelevanttoancientsocietiesbutalsotothecontemporarysocietyofChina. TranslationbyGuHongming ThetranslationofGuHongmingofTheAnalectsofConfucius,unlikeAnLeZhe's,isanolderChinesetranslation.GuHongming'stranslationoftheAnalectsisaclassicalinterpretationthatstudiestheworkthroughthelensesofhistoryandlanguage.
