非英语专业本科生英语学习动机和语用能力的相关性研究 Abstract AsEnglishbecomesmoreprevalentintheworld,moreandmorestudentsareinterestedinlearningEnglish.Non-EnglishmajorundergraduatestudentsalsohavevariousreasonsforlearningEnglish,butwhatmotivatesthemtolearnEnglishandhowtheirlanguageproficiencyandpragmaticabilityaffecttheirEnglishlearninghavenotbeenadequatelyexplored.Thispaperinvestigatestherelationshipbetweennon-Englishmajorundergraduatestudents'Englishlearningmotivationandpragmaticability,usingquestionnairesurveyandlanguageproficiencytestdata.TheresultsindicatethatthereisapositivecorrelationbetweenEnglishlearningmotivationandpragmaticability,suggestingthatstudentswhohavehighmotivationtolearnEnglishtendtohavebetterpragmaticability.Therefore,itiscrucialforEnglishteacherstopayattentiontostudents'motivationandpragmaticabilityinEnglishteachingtofostermoreeffectivelanguagelearning. Introduction Englishisoneofthemostwidelyspokenlanguagesintheworld,withover1.5billionpeoplespeakingEnglishastheirsecondlanguage.ThistrendhasledtotheincreasedimportanceofEnglishineducation,business,andcommunication.InChina,Englishisanessentialsubjectintheeducationsystem,andalmosteveryuniversityhasmandatoryEnglishcoursesforstudents,regardlessoftheirmajor. Fornon-Englishmajorundergraduatestudents,learningEnglishisbothanopportunityandachallenge.Theyfacethechallengeoflearningaforeignlanguagewhilealsohavingtofocusontheirprimarymajorstudies.Also,non-EnglishmajorstudentshavevariedreasonsforlearningEnglish.SomestudentslearnEnglishforacademicpurposes,whileothersmaylearnitoutofpersonalinterestorforpotentialcareeropportunities. InEnglishlanguagelearning,itiscrucialtoinvestigatethestudents'motivationandlanguageabilityastheyplayanimportantroleinlanguagelearning.Therefore,thispaperaimstoinvestigatenon-Englishmajorundergraduatestudents'EnglishlearningmotivationandhowtheirlanguageproficiencyandpragmaticabilityaffecttheirEnglishlearning.
