基于语料库的非英语专业研究生词块教学法英语写作教学实证研究的中期报告 I.Introduction Chunkingreferstotheprocessofgroupingorchunkingtogetherseveralwordsinalanguagetoformaunitofmeaning.Chunkingisanimportantfeatureoflanguagelearningandiswidelyusedinsecondlanguageacquisitiontheoriesandpractices.Oneimportantelementinchunkingiscollocations,whichareasequenceofwordsthatcommonlyoccurtogetherandbringaspecificmeaning.Researchshowsthatcollocationsareextremelyimportantinimprovingstudents’writingskills,andagoodunderstandingofcollocationscansignificantlyenhancestudents’abilitytowriteeffectivelyinaforeignlanguage. Thisstudyaimstoinvestigatetheeffectivenessofacorpus-basedchunkingteachingmethodonnon-Englishmajorpostgraduates’writingabilitiesinEnglishwriting.Thispaperpresentsthemid-termreportontheresearchprocess,includingtheresearchdesign,literaturereview,anddatacollection. II.LiteratureReview 2.1Thetheoryofchunking Chunkingimpliesgroupingorchunkingseveralwordstogetherinlanguageteachingandlearning.Chunkingenlargestheprocessingcapacityofworkingmemoryandreducestheloadonlong-termmemory.Chunkingallowsfortheprocessingofmoreinformationthanseparatewordsprocessedindependently(Nation,2013).Sinclair(1991)definesachunkas“anarbitrarysequenceofwordsthatrecursfrequentlyinalanguageandperformsacoherentmeaning”.Achunkisatypeofcollocation;anexampleofachunkisthephrase“kickthebucket,”whichreferstodying. 2.2Theimportanceofcollocationsinlanguagelearning Collocationreferstothewaywordscombineinalanguagetoformanaturalcollocation.Collocationscanbeformedbytwoormorewordsthatoccurtogetherandconveyaspecificmeaning,e.g.,“heavyrain,”or“agoodidea.”Theprocessofacquiringcollocationsiscrucialforlanguagelearnerssincethecorrectuseofcollocationscanenhancefluencyandaccuracyinthelanguage. Thereisampleevidencefromresearchthatshowsthatcollocationsareimportantinlanguagelearningandteaching.Strikingly,researchconsistentlyshowsthatadvancedlearnersofaforeignlanguagecancommunicatebasicideasbuttendtomakeerrorsinmorecomplexcollocations(Thornbury,2004).Correctuseofcollo
