英语专业学生英语学习动机的调查研究——以广西师范大学为例的中期报告 Introduction Asoneofthemostimportantskillsinthemodernworld,Englishhasbecomeacommonlanguageusedininternationalcommunication,business,anddailylife.ItisnosurprisethatmoreandmorecollegestudentschooseEnglishastheirmajorinChina.However,themotivationsbehindtheirdecisiontostudyEnglisharestillopentodebate.ThisreportaimstoinvestigatethemotivationsofEnglishmajorsatGuangxiNormalUniversity,oneoftheleadinguniversitiesinthisfieldinChina.Theresearchmethod,results,andanalysisarepresentedbelow. ResearchMethod Theresearchwasconductedthroughanonlinesurvey,whichwasdistributedto200EnglishmajorsatGuangxiNormalUniversity.Thesurveyconsistedoffourparts.Thefirstpartcollectedtherespondents'demographicinformation,suchasgender,age,andgrade.ThesecondpartaskedthemtoratetheirmotivationtostudyEnglish,usingafive-pointLikertscalerangingfromstronglydisagreetostronglyagree.ThethirdpartmeasuredthefactorsthatinfluencedtheirdecisiontostudyEnglish,throughmultiple-choicequestions.ThefourthpartaskedfortheirsuggestionstoimproveEnglisheducationintheuniversity.ThedatawereanalyzedusingSPSSsoftware. Results Ofthe200respondents,118werefemalesand82weremales.Theagerangewasfrom18to23,withthemajority(62%)being19yearsold.Allofthemwereundergraduatestudents,withthedistributionofgradesasfollows:53freshmen,68sophomores,46juniors,and33seniors. IntermsofmotivationtostudyEnglish,74%oftherespondentsagreedorstronglyagreedthattheywereinterestedinthelanguageitself,while69%agreedorstronglyagreedthatEnglishproficiencywouldenhancetheircareeropportunities.63%agreedorstronglyagreedthatEnglishwasnecessaryfortheiracademicstudies,and60%agreedorstronglyagreedthatEnglishwasimportantforinternationalcommunication.Fortheremainingmotivationfactors,suchaspersonaldevelopment,culturalexploration,andsocialpressure,thepercentagesofagreementorstrongagreementwerelower,rangingfrom46%to52%.
