支架式教学在高中英语阅读教学中的应用的中期报告 Introduction WiththeincreasingimportanceofEnglishinvariousaspectsoflife,thedevelopmentofEnglishreadingskillshasbecomeacrucialgoalinhighschooleducation.However,thetraditionalteachingmethodsusedinEnglishreadingclasseshavebeencriticizedforbeingteacher-centeredandfosteringapassivelearningenvironment.ThisstudyaimstoexploretheapplicationofthescaffoldedteachingapproachinhighschoolEnglishreadingclasses,focusingonthemid-termresultsoftheresearch. LiteratureReview Scaffoldedteaching,alsoknownasguidedteaching,isateachingapproachthatprovideslearnerswithnecessarysupportstohelpthemaccomplishataskthatisbeyondtheirindividualcapabilities(Birch&Ladd,2017).Scaffoldedteachingaimstobuildabridgebetweenthelearner'scurrentknowledgeandwhattheyneedtoknowandachieve.AccordingtoVygotsky'stheory,learninghappensinasocialcontext,andchildrenlearnbestwithassistancefrommorecompetentpeersoradults(Vygotsky,1978).Scaffoldedteachingstrategies,suchasmodeling,cueing,questioning,andfeedback,havebeenwidelyusedinvariousdisciplines,includingreadinginstruction. SeveralstudieshaveaddressedtheeffectivenessofthescaffoldedapproachinpromotingEnglishreadingskills.Forinstance,KimandKim(2020)conductedastudytocomparetheeffectivenessofthescaffoldedapproachwithtraditionalinstructiononuniversitystudents.Theirfindingsindicatedthatthescaffoldedapproachsignificantlyimprovedstudents'readingcomprehensionandvocabularyknowledgecomparedtotraditionalinstruction.Similarly,WeiandGao(2019)testedtheefficacyofthescaffoldedapproachonhighschoolstudentsinChinaandfoundthatthemethodsignificantlyfacilitatedstudents'readingcomprehensionandmetacognitiveabilities. Methodology Participants Theresearchparticipantswere54highschoolstudentsaged16to17,studyingataschoolinChina.Thestudentswererandomlyassignedtotheexperimentalgroup(n=27)andcontrolgroup(n=27).
