英语学术写作中外壳名词的立场研究的开题报告 Title:AnInvestigationoftheStanceofShellNounsinEnglishAcademicWriting Introduction: InEnglishacademicwriting,shellnouns(alsoknownasumbrellaorabstractnouns)havebeenwidelyusedtosummarizeandcategorizecomplexinformation.Thesenounsnotonlyhelptoorganizeandconveyinformation,buttheyalsorevealthewriter'sstancetowardsthetopicbeingdiscussed.ThepurposeofthisstudyistoexplorethestanceofshellnounsinEnglishacademicwriting,specificallyexamininghowtheyareusedtoconveythewriter'sstanceandhowthiscontributestotheoveralltoneofthepaper. LiteratureReview: Previousresearchintoshellnounshasfocusedontheirsyntacticfeatures,suchasfrequency,length,andnouncollocates.However,therehasbeenlimitedresearchintotherolethatshellnounsplayinacademicwritingandtheirpotentialimpactonthereader'sperceptionofthewriter'sstance. AccordingtoHyland(2005),shellnounsareoftenusedinacademicwritingtoconstructanimpersonal,objectivetone.Byusingthesenouns,writerscandistancethemselvesfromthetopicandpresentinformationinamoreneutralanddetachedway.However,thisapproachcanalsobeseenaslimiting,asitdoesnotallowthewritertoexpresstheiropinionorstanceonthetopicbeingdiscussed. Incontrast,otherscholarshavearguedthatshellnounscanbeusedstrategicallytoindicatethewriter'sstancetowardsthetopic.Forexample,SwalesandFeak(2012)suggestthattheuseofcertainshellnouns,suchas'challenge','critique',and'reconsider',canconveythewriter'sintentiontoquestionorchallengeexistingideas. ResearchQuestions: Basedontheliteraturereview,thefollowingresearchquestionswillbeexplored: 1.HowareshellnounsusedinEnglishacademicwritingtoconveythewriter'sstance? 2.Whatimpactdotheseshellnounshaveontheoveralltoneofthepaper? 3.Towhatextentdotheuseofdifferenttypesofshellnounsconveydifferentstances?
