词汇注释语言及词汇量水平对英语专业学生阅读中词汇附带习得的影响研究的中期报告 Title:TheMidtermReportontheImpactofLanguageandVocabularyProficiencyonVocabularyIncidentalAcquisitioninEnglishMajors'Reading Abstract: ThisreportisamidtermreportontheongoingstudyontheimpactoflanguageandvocabularyproficiencyonvocabularyincidentalacquisitioninEnglishmajors'reading.Thestudyaimstoinvestigatehowlanguageproficiency,vocabularysize,vocabularydepth,andvocabularyknowledgeaffectEnglishmajors'abilitytoacquirenewvocabularyincidentallywhilereadingacademictexts. Methodology: Thestudyusedamixed-methodsdesign,includingavocabularytest,areadingtask,andapost-readinginterview.Thevocabularytestwasusedtomeasuretheparticipants'vocabularysize,vocabularydepth,andvocabularyknowledge.Thereadingtaskaskedparticipantstoreadanacademictextandidentifyunfamiliarwords.Thepost-readinginterviewwasusedtoinvestigateparticipants'awarenessoftheunfamiliarwordstheyencounteredwhilereading. Participants: Theparticipantsinthisstudywere50EnglishmajorsfromauniversityinChina,ranginginagefrom18to22.TheywereallattheintermediatelevelofEnglishproficiencybasedontheirplacementtestscores. Results: Theresultsshowedthattheparticipants'languageproficiency,vocabularysize,vocabularydepth,andvocabularyknowledgewerepositivelycorrelatedwiththeirabilitytoacquirenewvocabularyincidentallywhilereading.Higherlanguageproficiencyfacilitatedfasterprocessingofwrittenlanguageandawiderrangeofcomprehensionstrategies.Greatervocabularysizeanddepthincreasedthelikelihoodofencounteringandrecognizingunknownwords,whilegreatervocabularyknowledgefacilitatedretrievalofwordmeaningfrommemory.However,thestudyalsofoundthateventhoughparticipantshadencounteredunfamiliarwordswhilereading,theymightnotnecessarilybecomeawareofthemunlesstheunfamiliarwordsdisruptedtheirunderstandingofthetext. Implications: ThefindingsofthisstudysuggestthatEnglishmajorsshouldpayattentiontobothlanguageproficiencyandvocabularylearningtoimprovetheirabilitytoacquirenewvocabularyincidentallywhilereading.Specifically,theyshouldfocus
