Introduction: AsaclassicofChineseliterature,“SixChaptersofaFloatingLife”hasbeenwidelytranslatedintomanylanguages.Amongthem,YangXianyiandGladysYang’stranslationinEnglishisoneofthemostfamousandpopularones.TheirtranslationhasbeenpraisedasamasterpiecethatperfectlycapturestheessenceoftheoriginaltextanduniquelyrepresentsthebeautyofChineseliterature.ThisresearchaimstoanalyzetheirtranslationfromtheperspectiveofNord’sfunctionaltranslationtheory.Nord’sfunctionaltheoryemphasizestheimportanceofachievingcommunicativegoalsintranslationandproposesamethodologyforanalyzingtranslationstrategies.Byadoptingthistheory,thisstudywillexplorehowthetranslatorsapproachedthetranslation,especiallyintermsofculturaltransfer.
