diverseaspectsworldculturesresultedfromtheisolationofgroupsof
peoplefromoneanother.Itisnotsurprising,then,thatadegreeof
culturalamalgamationhasoccurredasimprovedtransportationand
communicationhavebroughtpeopleofvarioussocietiesintoevermore
frequentcontact.Analyzingtheblurringofculturaldifferences
inevitablyincludesagreatdealaboutfastfood,basketball,rockmusic,
andothersuchaspectsofpopculture,butsuchanalysisdoesnot
trivializethesubject,.Instead,alongstandingbottomuplineof
politicaltheoryarguesthattheworld`speoplecanbuildoncommonplace
interactionsandincreasingculturalcommonalitiesthatengender
familiaritywithandconfidenceinoneanothertocreateaglobalcivil
societythatmightevolveintoaglobalnation.Bythesameprocess,if
transnationalcivilsocietiesdevelop,thenregionalandevenglobal
schemesofgovernancecouldconceivablyformandsupplementorsupplant
theterritorialstate.Scholarswhoexaminethebottom-upprocessof
transnationalintegrationlookforevidenceinsuchfactorsastheflow
ofcommunicationsandcommercebetweencountriesandthespreadacross
bordersofwhatpeoplewear,eat,anddoforrecreation.
