Introduction: Vocabularyacquisitionisafundamentalaspectoflanguagelearning.InthecontextofEnglishasasecondlanguage(ESL)education,buildingarobustvocabularyenhanceslearners'abilitytocomprehendandproducelanguage.HighschoolEnglishextensivereadingclassesofferanidealsettingtoexplorevocabularyacquisition,astheyserveasplatformsforlanguageexposureandpractice.Thispaperaimstoexaminetheefficacyofvocabularyinstructionanditsimpactonhighschoolstudents'languagelearningoutcomes. LiteratureReview: Varioustheoriesandmodelshavebeenproposedtoexplainvocabularyacquisition.Theinputhypothesis,proposedbyKrashen(1982),suggeststhatlearnersacquirevocabularyimplicitlythroughexposuretocomprehensibleinput.Thisinputcanbeobtainedthroughextensivereading,whichinvolvesreadingalargequantityofmaterialsforpleasureandinterest.Extensivereadingpromotesvocabularyacquisitionbyprovidinglearnerswithexposuretoawiderangeofvocabularyinmeaningfulcontexts.
