Introduction: Educationsystemsaroundtheworldhaveshiftedtheirfocusfromthetraditionaltransmissionmodelofeducationtoastudent-centeredapproachthatemphasizesthedevelopmentofcorecompetencies.Corecompetenciesrefertoasetofknowledge,skills,andattitudesnecessaryforindividualstosucceedintheirpersonalandprofessionallives.Thisparadigmshiftineducationrequiressubject-specificteachingmethodsthatpromotetheacquisitionofthesecorecompetencies. Problem-basedteaching(PBT)isonesuchinstructionalapproachthathasgainedconsiderableattentioninrecentyears.PBTengagesstudentsinreal-worldproblems,allowingthemtoexplore,investigate,andsolvecomplexissuescollaboratively.Thisapproachiscloselyalignedwiththedevelopmentofcorecompetenciesasitencouragescriticalthinking,problem-solvingskills,effectivecommunication,collaboration,andself-directedlearning. Methods: Thestudyinvolvedasampleof100highschoolstudentsfromtwodifferentclasses.Oneclasswasassignedtheproblem-basedteachingmethod,whiletheotherclassreceivedtraditionalinstruction.Thepre-testandpost-testscoreswereusedtoassessthestudents'knowledgeandunderstandingofgeographicconcepts.Inaddition,semi-structuredinterviewswereconductedwithasubsetofstudentsfrombothgroupstogainqualitativeinsightsintotheirexperi
