CausesoftheInadequateCriticalThinkingAbility ThefollowingarethereasonswhymanycollegeEnglishmajorstudentslackcriticalthinkingability. 1.TheExam-OrientedEducation Theexam-orientededucationmodehasbeenthehallmarkofChineseeducationfordecades,andthismodehaspermeatedallaspectsofteachingandlearninginChina,includingEnglisheducation.Moststudentsfocusontestoutcomesandmemorizationoftentothegrievousexclusionofanalyticalandcriticalthinkingabilities.Inthisrespect,studentsareconsideredsuccessfulbasedontheirexaminationresults,whichultimatelydamagetheircriticalthinkingskills. 2.PassiveLearningApproach ThetraditionalChineseeducationmodelfavorsapassivelearningapproachratherthananactiveone.Mostclassroomsrevolvearoundtheteacher'sone-waycommunication;studentsareexpectedtopassivelyabsorbinformationandfactswhileleavingtheinterpretationandanalysistotheinstructors.Assuch,studentsdonotchallengeorcriticallyquestiontheinformationpresentedtothem,whicheventuallyleadstoaninadequatecriticalthinkingability. 3.TheEnglishLearningEnvironment ThelearningenvironmentforEnglishmajorsinChinaisvastlydifferentfromtheenvironmentofnativeEnglishspeakers.Students'accesstoauthenticEnglishmaterials,teachers,andclassmatesislimited,whichresultsinrotememorizationratherthanin-depthanalysis.Furthermore,manyChineseEnglishteachersthemselveshaveenduredlimitedlanguageeducationthemselves.Asaresult,theylackthenecessarypedagogicaltoolsandskillstocontributeeffectivelytothestudents'
