Introduction Theintroductionofself-directedlearning(SDL)inhighereducationhasbeenagrowingtrendinrecentyears.SDLallowsstudentstotakechargeoftheirownlearning,leadingtoamorepersonalizedandflexiblestyleofeducation.ThemovetowardsSDLinhighereducationhasbeendrivenbytheneedtopreparestudentsforlifelonglearninginanever-changinganddynamicsociety.Giventherapidlychangingnatureofsociety,thereisaneedtohelpstudentsdevelopskillsthatensuretheirreadinessforfutureworkdemands. Oneareawhereself-directedlearningcanbeparticularlyeffectiveisinlanguagelearning.Asoneofthemostimportantareasofstudyinvocationalcolleges,Englishisessentialforstudentstosucceedintheirfuturecareers.Inthispaper,wewillexploretheimplementationandeffectivenessofself-directedlearninginvocationalcolleges,particularlyinEnglishmajorprograms.
