基于语料库的中国英语学习者写作中的过度冗余研究 Introduction 随着全球化的趋势,中国英语学习者越来越需要掌握高水平的英语写作能力。然而,在中国英语学习者的写作中,存在着过度冗余的问题。过度冗余的写作不仅使文本产生歧义,也降低了写作的可读性和流畅性。本文旨在探讨中国英语学习者写作中存在的冗余现象,并提出相应的对策。 Over-RedundancyinWritingbyChineseEnglishLearners Over-redundancyinwritinghasbeenalong-standingissueintheChineseEnglishlearners’writing,especiallyintheacademicwritingcontext.Whenwriting,ChineseEnglishlearnerstendtousemorewordsthannecessaryinexpressingtheirideas,leadingtowordinessandredundancy.Asaresult,theirwritingmaylackclarity,cohesion,andcoherence,whichareimportantfeaturesofeffectivewriting.Theissueofover-redundancyinChineseEnglishlearners’writinghasbeeninvestigatedbymanyresearchersacrosstheworld,butfewstudieshavebeenconductedspecificallyontheimpactofcorpus-basedlearningonreducingredundancyinChineselearners’writing. TheNatureofOver-RedundancyinWriting Over-redundancyinwritingreferstotheuseofunnecessaryandrepetitivewords,expressionsorphrasesthatcontributelittleornothingtothemeaningofthetext.Thisphenomenoncanmakethetextunnecessarilycomplicatedanddifficulttoread.ItisacommonmistakeforChineseEnglishlearners,whotendtotranslateChinesesyntacticstructuresandidiomsintoEnglish.Forexample,ChineseEnglishlearnersmayusephraseslike‘intheprocessof’insteadof‘during’,or‘seemstobequite’insteadof‘seemsquite’.Moreover,theymayusemorelinkingwordsandtransitionexpressionsthannecessary,resultinginwordyanddisconnectedsentences.Theseexpressionsaddlittlevaluetothetextanddistractthereadersfromthemainideasofthetext. EffectsofOver-RedundancyinWriting Over-redundancyinwritinghasnegativeeffectsonthequalityofthetext.Itmakesthetextlessreadable,lessclear,andlessconcise,hinderingreaders’comprehension.Moreover,itreducesthereadability,therebyreducingtheimpactofthemessageconveyedbythetext.Thetextmayalsoappearrepetitiveandboring,reducingitseffectivenessinconveyingtheintendedmessage.Thesenegativeimpactsreducethequalityofthetextandunderminethecommunicationeffectivenessinthewriting.
