TheImportanceofFeedbackinWriting Writingisacomplexskillthatrequiresmanystrategiestomaster.Students’writingqualitycanbeimprovedbycarefulinstructionandfeedback,whichhelpsthemdeveloptheirwritingskillsandknowledge.Feedbackisseenasoneofthebestwaystoimprovelearningoutcomes,particularlyinwritingskills(HattieandTimperley,2007).Feedbackcanbedefinedasinformationgiventostudentsregardingtheirperformancewiththeaimofenhancingtheirlearning(Shute,2008).Additionally,feedbackcantakeseveraldifferentforms,suchaswritten,verbal,ormultimedia. WrittenCorrectiveFeedback Writtencorrectivefeedbackisoneofthemostcommonformsoffeedbackusedbyteachersinwritingcourses.Therearetwomaintypesofwrittencorrectivefeedback:directandindirect.Directfeedbackiswhenateacherwritesthecorrectanswerintothestudent'stext.Indirectfeedback,ontheotherhand,involvesindicatingthatanerrorhasoccurredbutdoesnotprovidethecorrectanswer(BitchenerandKnoch,2008).
