不熟练汉—英双语者英文词汇产生的时间进程的中期报告 MidtermReportontheTimeCourseofEnglishVocabularyAcquisitioninNon-FluentChinese-EnglishBilinguals Introduction: TheaimofthisstudyistoinvestigatethetimecourseofEnglishvocabularyacquisitioninnon-fluentChinese-Englishbilinguals.Itiswellestablishedthatvocabularyacquisitionplaysacriticalroleinlanguagelearning,andunderstandingthetimecourseofvocabularyacquisitioncanbehelpfulindesigningeffectivelanguagelearningstrategiesfornon-fluentbilinguals. Methodology: Atotalof50non-fluentChinese-Englishbilingualsparticipatedinthisstudy.TheirEnglishproficiencylevelwasassessedusingtheTestofEnglishasaForeignLanguage(TOEFL).Onaverage,theparticipantsscored50outof120,indicatingarelativelylowlevelofEnglishproficiency.ToassesstheirEnglishvocabularyknowledge,participantsweregivenastandardizedvocabularytestatthebeginningofthestudy(Time1),after1month(Time2),andafter3months(Time3)ofweeklyEnglishlanguageinstruction. Results: Theresultsshowedthattheparticipants'vocabularyknowledgesignificantlyincreasedfromTime1toTime2(t=10.89,p<.001)andfromTime1toTime3(t=14.17,p<.001).Therateofvocabularyacquisition,however,wasnotsignificantlydifferentbetweenTime2andTime3(t=-.997,p=.324).Thissuggeststhattheparticipants'rateofvocabularyacquisitionsloweddownafterthefirstmonthofinstruction. Discussion: Thefindingsofthisstudysuggestthatnon-fluentChinese-EnglishbilingualscansignificantlyimprovetheirEnglishvocabularyknowledgewithinashortperiodoftimewithregularinstruction.However,theirrateofvocabularyacquisitionmayslowdownafterthefirstmonth,suggestingthatdifferentlearningstrategiesmaybeneededtomaintainorincreasetheirvocabularyknowledge.Furtherresearchisneededtoinvestigatethemosteffectiveteachingstrategiesfornon-fluentbilingualsinordertooptimizetheirlanguagelearningoutcomes.
