英语硕士论文文献综述部分转述动词使用的语料库研究的中期报告 Themid-termreportofacorpus-basedstudyontheuseofreportingverbsintheliteraturereviewsectionofEnglishmaster'stheses BackgroundandSignificance Reportingverbsareimportantlinguisticdevicesusedtorefertoanauthor’swork,expressagreementordisagreement,andindicatethelevelofcertaintyassociatedwithaparticularclaim.Inacademicwriting,theliteraturereviewsectionofathesisordissertationisaparticularlyimportantcomponent,asitaimstoprovideanoverviewofexistingresearchonaparticulartopicandtoevaluatethecontributionsofpreviousstudiestothefield.Withintheseliteraturereviews,theuseofreportingverbsplaysacrucialroleinestablishingtheauthor’sstancetowardstheexistingliterature,providingevidenceforandagainstparticularclaims,andshapingtheoverallargumentofthepaper. Despitetheimportanceofreportingverbsinacademicwriting,therehasbeenrelativelylittleresearchontheiruseintheliteraturereviewsectionofEnglishmaster’stheses.Existingstudieshavepredominantlyfocusedonundergraduatewritingoronaspecificdiscipline,suchascomputerscienceorlinguistics.Thus,thisstudyseekstofillthegapintheliteraturebyprovidingacomprehensiveanalysisoftheuseofreportingverbsintheliteraturereviewsectionofEnglishmaster’sthesesacrossarangeofdisciplines. Methods Toconductthestudy,acorpusof50Englishmaster’stheseswascompiledfrommultipledisciplines,includingeducation,business,engineering,andsocialsciences.Thecorpusconsistedofatotalofapproximately1.5millionwords.TheliteraturereviewsectionsofeachthesiswereextractedandanalyzedusingAntConc,acorpusanalysissoftwareprogram.Thestudyfocusedonthreemainaspectsofreportingverbuse:frequency,type,andfunction. Results Preliminaryresultsindicatethatthemostfrequentlyusedreportingverbsinthecorpuswere“argue”(19.1%),“state”(9.1%),and“show”(6.5%).Theseverbsaretypicallyusedtoexpresstheauthor’sstancetowardsexistingresearchortointroduceanewclaim.Additionally,thestudyfoundthatthemajorityofreportingverbsusedintheliteraturereviewsectionwereinthepresenttense,whichsuggeststhatauthorsareoftenmakingdire
