LuXun’s(鲁迅)workshavealwaysbeenregardedastheepitomeofmodernChineseliterature.Amonghisvariousworks,thenovella,“TheTrueStoryofAhQ”(《阿Q正传》)andtheshortstorycollection,“CalltoArms”(《呐喊》),arethemostinfluential.Asfor“CalltoArms,”oneofthesignificantfeaturesistheuseofheavilyloadedwords,whichisauniquewritingtechniqueinChineseliterature.Therefore,thisstudyaimstoexploretheproblemsthatarebroughtaboutbytheculturalburdenwordsin“CalltoArms”andtostudytheEnglishversionofthetranslationofChineseculturalburdenwords.
LiteratureReview
TheuseofChineseculturalburdenwordsinChineseliteratureiscommonplaceandhasbeenstudiedextensively.TheconceptofculturalburdenwordswasfirstproposedbyJiJin,aChineselinguist.Jiarguesthatculturalburdenwordsarewordswithaculturalmeaningthatcanonlybeunderstoodwithinaspecificculturalcontext,resultingintranslationdifficulties.Somescholarshavestudiedtheproblemsbroughtaboutbyculturalburdenwordsintheprocessoftranslation.However,fewstudieshavefocusedonthetranslationofculturalburdenwordsintheEnglishversionsof“CalltoArms.”
