中国古代航海术语分类及英译研究的中期报告 Abstract: Thismid-termreportpresentstheprogressofresearchontheclassificationandEnglishtranslationofancientChinesenauticalterms.Thereportsummarizestheresearchmethodologyandsources,aswellasthepreliminaryclassificationofthenauticaltermsintofivecategories:sailingandnavigation,meteorology,marinelifeandenvironment,shipbuildingandequipment,andhumanfactors.Adetailedanalysisofeachcategoryisprovided,includingtheidentificationofkeytermsandtheirdefinitions,historicalevolution,usage,andrelatedculturalcontexts.ThereportalsooffersanEnglishtranslationofselectednauticaltermsandtheirexplanation,whichwillbefurtherrevisedandexpandedinthefinalreport. Introduction: ThemaritimehistoryofChinadatesbacktotheNeolithicperiod,butitwasduringtheHanDynasty(206BCE-220CE)thatChinabegantoestablishmaritimetradeandexpanditsmaritimeterritories.Sincethen,Chinesesailorshavenavigatedtheseasusingtheirknowledgeofastronomy,geography,windandoceancurrents,andbyobservingmarinelifeandlandforms.Asaresult,arichvocabularyofnauticaltermshasbeendevelopedoverthecenturies,capturingthecomplexitiesofseafaringandreflectingtheuniqueculturalvalues,beliefs,andpracticesoftheChinesepeople. However,thelackofacomprehensiveandsystematicclassificationofancientChinesenauticaltermsandtheirEnglishequivalentshasposedchallengesforscholarsandstudentsofChinesemaritimehistory,aswellasforprofessionalsinthemaritimeindustry.TheaimofthisresearchprojectistofillthisgapbyprovidingacomprehensiveandsystematicclassificationofancientChinesenauticalterms,aswellastheirEnglishtranslationandexplanation. Methodology: TheresearchmethodologyinvolvesacomprehensivereviewofprimaryandsecondarysourcesrelatedtoChinesemaritimehistory,includinghistoricalrecords,encyclopedias,dictionaries,andacademicjournals.Specialattentionisgiventotheidentificationofnauticalterms,theirusage,andculturalconnotations.Thenauticaltermsarethenclassifiedintofivecategoriesbasedontheirfunctionsandcontexts.Theclassificationschemeisreviewedandrevisedbasedonfeedbackfromex
