Homework6:PrintedCircuitBoardLayoutDesign Introduction Thepurposeofthisprojectistodesignandbuildamobilerobotwhichwillbeabletoautonomouslytraverseauser-definedarea,identifyandpickuptrash(redcans)alongtheway.Therobotwillalsobeabletoidentifyobstaclesandavoid/movearoundthem.Therobotwilluseabasewithfourwheelstotravel.Anultrasonicsensorwillbeusedtoidentifyobjectsinfrontofitasittravels.Acompasssensorwillbeusedtokeeptrackoftherobot’spositionandmovement.TherobotwillhaveakeypadandanLCDdisplayforuserinterfacing.Amountedcamerawillbeusedtoidentifytrashbycomparingitscolortothebackground.Whenacanisidentified,ashovelwillbeusedtopickupthetrashandthrowitintoabasket.Theshovel’smovementwillbecontrolledusingservomotors.Anotherultrasonicsensorwillbeplacedabovethetrashbaskettocheckwhetherthebasketisfull.Toaidinthisfunctionality,IamdesigningaPrintedCircuitBoard(PCB)toplaceallthecomponentsspecifiedintheschematic.ThePCBallowstheMicrocontrollertointerfacewithallthecomponentsandsensors,andalsohasthepowersupplyofthewholerobot.Inordertofititonourbase,wedecidedtodesignourPCBwithdimensions11cmX10.5cmcheck .Aboardofthissizewillallowallourheadersandboardcomponentstofitcomfortably,anditwillalsositonourrobotcomfortably. PCBLayoutdesignConsideration ThePCBwasdesignedwithanattempttokeeptheEMInoisetoaminimumandtokeeptheEMIsourcesfromaffectingtheoperationofthemicroprocessorandothercomponents.ThenoisiestpartsofthecircuitweredeterminedtobethetwoPowersupplies,onefortheMicrocontrollerandsensors,theotherforthemotorsandtheservos.Thesewereplacedontwocornersoftheboardasfarawayfromthemicrocontrollerandtherestofthedigitalcircuitry.Thetwopowersuppliesshareacommonground.Thepowerandgroundlinesfromthepowersuppliesareplacedonseparatelayers,withthegroundloopplacesonthetoplayer,andthepowerlooponthebottomlayer[1].Inordertopreventthenoiseproducedbytheothercomponentsontheboardfromaffectingthemicrocontroller,theMCUwasgivenadedicatedpowerandgroundline,separatefromthelinesprovingpowertotheexternalsensorsandcomponents.Thishel
