In2009,theoutputvalueoftheglobalPCBindustryreached aboutUS$40.6billion,down15.83%over2008.Thiswasmainly causedbycontinuouslydecreasingPCBshipmentandaverage prices.Asformainsub-sectors,theoutputvalueoftheglobal substrate,rigidPCBandflexibleprintedcircuit(FPC)board sectorsdescendedby50%,20%and3.8%respectively comparedwith2008.Thedeclineoftheglobalsubstrateand rigidPCBsectorsismainlyduetothesharpdropofsalesvolume ofdesktopsandmediumtohigh-endnotebooks.Incomparison, theglobalFPCboardsectordeclinedmoreslightlyin2009, thankstothegrowingnumberofLEDbacklightmodulesand SmartPhoneFPCboardsaswellasthetouchpanelboom. From2000to2009,intermsofoutputvalue,computer,communications,industrial/medical,militaryandautomotive PCBsdecreasedby3%,13.5%,20.5%,20.1%and26.8%respectively,whileconsumerelectronicsPCBand packagesubstrateincreasedby15.8%and68%respectively.Single-sided/double-sidedPCBandmultilayer PCBdecreasedby37.3%and25.2%respectively,whilehigh-densityinterconnect(HDI)board,packagesubstrate andFPCincreasedby163.1%,68.1%and90.0%respectively. In2009,fromtheperspectiveoftheglobalPCBdistributionpattern,MainlandChina,JapanandTaiwanwerestillthe mainproductionareas,SouthKoreacontinuedtoexpanditsPCBindustry,whileEuropeandtheUnitedStateswere inrecession.ComparedwithJapanandSouthKoreawithadvantagesinhigh-endproductssuchasICsubstrateand FPCboard,andTaiwanwithadvantagesinmobilephonePCB,China,mainlyengagedinsingle-sidedPCBand multilayerPCB,isinferiorintermsofthetechnicalcontentofthePCBindustry. In2009,China'sPCBindustryforthefirsttimesawitsoutputvaluedeclineslightlyby3.6%toUS$16.35billion.
