《黄帝内经·素问》语义模糊数词英译研究 Title:AStudyontheTranslationofSemanticallyAmbiguousNumeralsinHuangdiNeijingSuwen Abstract: ThispaperfocusesonthetranslationchallengesposedbysemanticallyambiguousnumeralsintheancientChinesemedicaltext,HuangdiNeijingSuwen.Numeralsplayasignificantroleinpreservingtheoriginalmeaningandessenceofthetext.However,thetranslationofthesenumeralsintoEnglishoftenposesdifficultiesduetotheinherentsemanticvagueness.Thispaperaimstoexplorestrategiesandapproachesemployedbytranslatorstohandletheseambiguities,ultimatelyprovidinginsightsintothetranslationofHuangdiNeijingSuwen. Introduction: HuangdiNeijingSuwen,alsoknownastheYellowEmperor'sInnerCanon,isoneoftheoldestandmostimportanttextsintraditionalChinesemedicine.Itencompassesawiderangeoftopicsrelatedtohealth,disease,diagnosis,andtreatment,providinginvaluableinsightsintoancientChinesemedicalpractices.Numeralsarefrequentlyusedinthistext,andtheiraccuratetranslationiscrucialforunderstandingthemeaningandconcepts. SemanticAmbiguityinNumerals: ThesemanticallyambiguousnatureofnumeralsinHuangdiNeijingSuwenoriginatesfromseveralfactors.Firstly,thenumeralsusedinthetextoftenlackspecificunitsorreferences,makingitchallengingtodeterminetheirexactvalueorquantity.Secondly,thesenumeralsoftenhavesymbolicormetaphoricalmeaningsthatcannotbedirectlytranslatedintoEnglish.Additionally,thenumeralsusedinancientChineseculturemayhavedifferentconnotationsandimplicationscomparedtotheirmoderncounterparts.Thesefactorscontributetothesemanticvaguenesssurroundingnumeralsinthetext.
