Introduction Withthegrowingpopularityof3Dprinting,thequalityof3Dprintedpartshasbecomemoreimportantthanever.Oneofthemostcommonqualityissueswith3Dprintedpartsiswarpagedeformation.Thewarpagedeformationofa3Dprintedpartoccurswhenthepartcoolsandsolidifiesunevenly,causingittobend,twist,orwarp.Thisdeformationcancauseaparttobeunusableandcannegativelyimpacttheoverallqualityofthefinalproduct. Tocombatthisissue,weaimedtooptimizetheprocessparametersforthe3DprintercoverwarpagedeformationusingMoldflowandUDE.Moldflowisasimulationsoftwarethatallowsfortheanalysisandoptimizationoftheinjectionmoldingprocess,whileUDEisadeformationanalysissoftwarethatanalyzesthewarpagedeformationofapart.Byusingthesetwosoftwareprogramsincombination,wecansimulatethe3Dprintingprocessandanalyzethewarpagedeformationofthecovertooptimizetheprocessparametersandreducewarping. Methodology Tobegintheoptimizationprocess,wefirstdesigneda3DprintercoverusingCADsoftware.WethenimportedthedesignintoMoldflowandsimulatedtheinjectionmoldingprocess.Thesimulationallowedustoanalyzetheflowofthematerialasitenteredthemoldandthecoolingprocessasthematerialsolidified.Byanalyzingthesimulationresults,wewereabletoidentifyareasofhighstress,potentialwarpagedeformation,andotherissuesthatcouldbeaddressedthroughprocessparameteroptimization.
