Mean-ShiftTrackingAlgorithm: Mean-shiftisaniterativealgorithmthatfacilitatestrackingofthetargetbyupdatingthecenterofgravityoftheprobabilitydistributionfortheobject’sappearance.Inotherwords,themeanshiftalgorithmcalculatesthedisplacementvectorthatisrequiredtoshiftthecentroidofthetargettothecurrentlocation.Themean-shiftalgorithmperiodicallyupdatesthetarget’spositionandadjuststhewindowaroundthetargetaccordingly. Themean-shiftalgorithmismainlyappliedintwosteps:first,“targetmodel”iscreated,andthen,“searchwindow”isdefined.Inthefirststep,thetargetmodelisdefinedasahistogramofcolor,texture,orfeatures.Inthesecondstep,thesearchwindowisdefinedaroundthetargetareainthepreviousframetodetectthetargetregioninthecurrentframe.Mean-shiftcalculatestheprobabilitydistributionfortheobject’sappearanceaccordingtothetargetmodelanddefinesthesearchwindow.Iteratively,thealgorithmtriestoconvergetothecenteroftheprobabilitydistributionbyupdatingthecurrentpositionofthetargetuntilconvergence. ApplicationofMean-ShiftTrackinginOptical-ElectronicTrackingSystem: Mean-shifttrackingalgorithmhasbeenwidelyusedinOptical-Electronictrackingsystems,especiallyinthetargettrackingofvideosequences.Inoptical-electronictrackingsystems,thecameracapturestheimageofthetarget,andtheimageisprocessedbythesystemtotrackthetarget.TheMean-Shiftalgorithmisusedintheimageprocessingcomponentofthesystemtotrackthetargetobjectframebyframe.
