BuildingEnglishappliedskillsisessentialforhighvocationalandtechnicalcollegestudentsastheypreparetoentertheworkforce.ThedevelopmentofEnglishappliedskillsisanongoingprocess,anditrequiresasystematicapproachthatincludesinstruction,guidedpractice,andindependentlearning.ThispaperwillexplorethecurrentsituationofEnglishlanguageeducationinhighvocationalandtechnicalcolleges,thechallengesfacedbystudents,andthestrategiesthatcanbeemployedtoenhanceEnglishappliedabilityinstudents. CurrentStatusofEnglishLanguageEducationinHighVocationalandTechnicalColleges TheChinesegovernmenthasmadeconsiderableeffortstoimproveEnglisheducationinhighvocationalandtechnicalcollegesinrecentyears.Englishhasbecomeastandardcourseforvariousfieldsofstudy,includingengineering,business,andmedicine.Englishreading,writing,listening,andspeakingskillsareemphasizedthroughavarietyofinstructionalmethods,suchastextbooks,lectures,multimedia,andonlineresources. Despitetheseefforts,highvocationalandtechnicalcollegestudentsfacenumerouschallengesinattainingEnglishappliedskills.OneofthecriticalchallengesisalackofEnglishlanguageexposurebeyondtheclassroom.HighvocationalandtechnicalcollegestudentstypicallylacktheopportunitytopracticeusingEnglishoutsideofclass,whichimpedestheirprogressandlearning.Furthermore,thenumberofnativeEnglishspeakersavailabletoconversewithislimited,whichcreatesasignificanthurdleindevelopingconversationalproficiency.
