Introduction 2,4-Dichlorotolueneisacolorlesstopale-yellowliquidwithapenetratingodor.Itismainlyusedasanintermediateintheproductionofherbicides,insecticides,andotherchemicals.Duetoitstoxicologicaleffects,2,4-dichlorotolueneisclassifiedasahazardoussubstanceandrequirescarefulhandlinganddisposal. Gaschromatographyisoneofthemostwidelyusedtechniquesfortheanalysisoforganiccompounds.Itinvolvestheseparationofacomplexmixtureofcompoundsintoindividualcomponentsbymeansoftheirdifferentialmigrationthroughastationaryphase.Thecomponentsarethendetectedandquantifiedbyadetector,usuallyaflameionizationdetectororamassspectrometer. Experimental SamplePreparation Thesampleof2,4-dichlorotoluenewasobtainedfromachemicalsupplierandwasofanalyticalgradepurity.A1-mLaliquotofthesamplewasdilutedwith1mLofdichloromethaneandtransferredtoa2-mLambervialwithascrewcap. ChromatographyConditions AgaschromatographysystemequippedwithanHP-5column(30m×0.32mminnerdiameter,0.25µmfilmthickness)wasusedfortheanalysisof2,4-dichlorotoluene.Theinjectoranddetectortemperaturesweresetat250°Cand260°C,respectively.Thecarriergaswasheliumwithaflowrateof1mL/min.Thecolumntemperaturewasinitiallyheldat40°Cfor1min,thenrampedat10°C/minto220°Candheldfor5min. ResultsandDis
