I.OverviewofCarbonTariffs: Carbontariffs,alsoknownasbordercarbonadjustments(BCAs),refertoleviesimposedonimportsfromcountrieswithweakercarbonpricingpoliciesorhighercarbonfootprints.Thepurposeofcarbontariffsistoensurealevelplayingfieldfordomesticindustriesandpreventcarbonleakage,whereindustriesmovetocountrieswithlessstringentenvironmentalregulations.Thetariffsaimtoensurethatimportedgoodsbearacostequivalenttothecarboncontentthatwouldhavebeenimposeddomestically,therebyencouragingcountriestoadoptmorerobustcarbonpricingmechanisms.
