Introduction: ThereentryofaspacecraftintotheEarth'satmosphereisacriticalphaseofamission.Duringreentry,thespacecraftexperienceshightemperaturesandpressuresthatcandamageitsstructureandinstrumentation.Reentrytrajectoryoptimizationisthereforeessentialtoensurethatthespacecraftcansafelyentertheatmosphereandreachitsdestination.Thejump-reentrytrajectoryisaspecialtypeofreentrytrajectorythatincludesacontrolledjumpinaltitudetoreducetheheatinganddecelerationexperiencedduringtheatmosphericentryphase.Thispaperpresentsanovelmethodforoptimizingthejump-reentrytrajectorybasedonthehomotopymethod. Methodology: Thejump-reentrytrajectoryisdividedintoseveralsegments,andeachsegmentisoptimizedseparately.Theoptimizationproblemforeachsegmentisdefinedbytheobjectivefunctionandtheconstraints.Theobjectivefunctionistominimizethetotaldecelerationexperiencedbythespacecraftduringtheatmosphericentryphase.Theconstraintsincludethemaximumtemperatureandaccelerationthatthespacecraftcanwithstand,themaximumaltitudeandvelocityduringthejumpphase,andthemaximumfuelconsumption.Theoptimizationproblemissolvedusingadirectcollocationmethod,whichconvertsthecontinuoustrajectoryoptimizationproblemintoafinite-dimensionaloptimizationproblem.
