I.CausesofNegativeTransferofMotherTongue 1.Linguisticdifferences:StructuraldifferencesbetweenthenativelanguageandEnglish,suchassyntax,vocabulary,andgrammaticalrules,canleadtodirectnegativetransfer. 2.Phoneticdifferences:UnfamiliaritywithEnglishsounds,intonation,andstresspatternscanresultinpronunciationerrorsandalackoffluencyinwriting. 3.Culturaldifferences:Differentculturalbackgroundsandexperiencescaninfluencethewaystudentsexpressthemselves,resultingininappropriateuseofidiomaticexpressionsorculturalreferences.
