Abstract:
Theaimofthisstudyistoinvestigatetheemissionmechanismsofhydrocarbon(HC)andcarbonmonoxide(CO)intheidleoperatingconditionsofgasolineengines.ThestudyexploresthefactorsinfluencingHCandCOemissionsandestablishesarelationshipbetweenengineparametersandemissions.Experimentaltestswereconductedonamoderngasolineengineundercontrolledidleoperatingconditions,andvariousparameterssuchasenginespeed,air-fuelratio,andexhaustgasrecirculation(EGR)rateweresystematicallyvaried.TheresultsobtainedwereanalyzedtounderstandthemechanismsresponsibleforHCandCOemissionsduringidleconditions.
Introduction:
Vehicleemissionshavebecomeamajorenvironmentalconcerninrecentyears.Amongthevariouspollutantsemittedfromvehicles,hydrocarbon(HC)andcarbonmonoxide(CO)arethemostsignificantcontributorstoairpollution.Idleoperatingconditions,suchaswaitingattrafficlightsorintrafficcongestion,contributesignificantlytooverallvehicleemissions.Therefore,understandingtheemissionmechanismsofHCandCOduringidleconditionsbecomescrucialfordevelopingeffectiveemissioncontrolstrategiesforgasolineengines.
ExperimentalSetup:
Theexperimentswereconductedonastate-of-the-artgasolineengineequippedwithemissionanalysisequipment.Theenginewasoperatedundercontrolledidleconditions,withparameterssuchasenginespeed,air-fuelratio,andEGRratesystematicallyvaried.HCandCOemissionsweremeasuredusingaFouriertransforminfrared(FTIR)analyzer,whileotherengineoperatingparametersweremonitoredusingadvanceddataacquisitionsystems.
ResultsandDiscussion:
TheexperimentalresultsdemonstratethatvariousfactorssignificantlyinfluenceHCandCOemissionsduringidleoperatingconditions.Theair-fuelratiowasfoundtobeoneofthekeyparametersaffectingemissions,withrichair-fuelmixturesleadingtohigherlevelsofHCandCOemissions.EGRratewasobservedtohaveamixedeffectonemissions;atlowEGRrates,adecreaseinHCemissionswasnoted,whilehigherEGRratesledtoanincreaseinCOemissions.Engines
