Thedamagedvolumeofashipisacrucialfactorindeterminingtheimpactofacollision.Thedamagedvolumecanbecalculatedbasedonthecollisionenergyandthestrengthoftheship'sstructure.Thecollisionenergydependsontherelativespeedandmassofthecollidingships.Thestrengthofaship'sstructuredependsonthedesign,constructionmaterials,andmaintenanceleveloftheship.Thus,thedamagedvolumeofashipcanrevealitsvulnerabilityandthepotentialconsequencesofacollision.
