英语阅读教学中存在的问题及对策 Title:ChallengesinEnglishReadingInstructionandStrategiesforResolution Introduction: Englishreadinginstructionplaysavitalroleindevelopinglanguageproficiencyandliteracyskillsamonglearners.However,thereareseveralchallengesthatteachersfacewhenteachingreadinginEnglishasaforeignlanguage(EFL)contexts.ThispaperaimstoidentifyanddiscusstheproblemsencounteredduringEnglishreadinginstructionandprovidestrategiesforresolvingtheseissueseffectively. ChallengesinEnglishReadingInstruction: 1.LimitedVocabularyKnowledge:OneofthemainchallengesinEnglishreadinginstructionisthelimitedvocabularyknowledgeofEFLlearners.Thishamperstheirabilitytocomprehendandmakemeaningfromthetext.Insufficientvocabularyknowledgeleadstodifficultiesinunderstandingwordmeanings,graspingthemainidea,andmakinginferences. 2.LackofReadingStrategies:ManyEFLlearnerslackeffectivereadingstrategies,suchasskimming,scanning,predicting,andsummarizing.Thesestrategiesallowlearnerstotackledifferenttypesoftextsandcomprehendinformationmoreaccuratelyandefficiently.Withoutthesestrategies,learnersstruggletounderstandthetextandfailtodevelopcriticalreadingskills. 3.InsufficientReadingFluency:Readingfluencyiscrucialforcomprehensionandengagementwithtexts.However,learnersoftenlackfluencyduetolimitedpractice,thushinderingtheirreadingprogress.Poorreadingfluencyaffectstheoverallreadingcomprehensionandhindersthedevelopmentofadvancedreadingskills. 4.LimitedExposuretoAuthenticTexts:LimitedaccesstoauthenticreadingmaterialsposesasignificantchallengeforEFLlearners.Authentictextsprovidelearnerswithexposuretoreallanguageuse,varyinggenres,anddifferentwritingstyles.Withoutexposuretoauthentictexts,learnersfinditchallengingtodevelopdiversereadingskills. StrategiesforResolution: 1.VocabularyInstruction:Teachersshouldprovideexplicitandtargetedvocabularyinstructiontoenhancelearners'vocabularyknowledge.Thiscanbedonethroughtheuseofwordmaps,contextclues,andregularvocabularyexercises.Encouragingextensivereadingcanalsoplayasignificantroleinexpandin
