Methods TheMarkovchainmodelisusedtoanalyzethestation'shourlyusagedata.Thehourlyutilizationrateofeachstationisobtainedbydividingthenumberofbicyclesrentedbythenumberofdocksatthestationforeachhour.Thehourlyutilizationrateisthentransformedintoastate,andtheprobabilitytransitionmatrixiscalculatedbasedontheMarkovchain.Thematrixdescribestheprobabilityofatransitionfromonestatetoanotherinagiventimeperiod. Results Usingcasestudiesonpublicbike-sharingsystemsinseveralcities,wehaveverifiedtheeffectivenessoftheproposedmethod.Theanalysisshowedthatthesupply-demandbalanceofpublicbikestationsvariesgreatlyindifferenttimeperiods.Thetransitionprobabilitymatrixindicatesthatthehourlyutilizationofeachstationhasastrongmemoryeffectandisinfluencedbyitshistory.Basedonthepredictionoffutureutilizationdata,itispossibletoadjustthesupply-demandbalanceofthestation. Conclusion TheMarkovchainmodelusedinthispaperprovidesanewmethodforanalyzingthesupply-demandbalanceofpublicbikestations.Theresultsoftheanalysiscanprovidedecision-makerswithscientificsupportfortheefficientmanagementofpublicbike-sharingsystems.Itisconcludedthatthemethodcaneffectivelyoptimizetheperformanceofstationoperationsandprovidebetterservicestousers.
