Background Listeningcomprehensionisacriticalskillforsecondlanguagelearners,anditisthebasisforotherlanguageskillssuchasspeakingandwriting.Listeningcomprehensionskillsarehighlynecessaryinvariousdomains,suchasacademiccontexts,socialinteractions,andworkplacesettings.However,listeningcomprehensionisachallengingskill,andoftenlearnersexperiencedifficultiesincomprehendingspokenlanguage.Researchhasestablishedthatsecondlanguagelearnersexperiencedifficultiesinlisteningcomprehensionduetoproblemsrelatedtolanguageproficiency,limitedvocabulary,cognitiveprocesses,andculturalfactors(Field,2002;Brown,2014).Moreover,listeningcomprehensiondifficultiesaremoresevereforESLlearnersbecauseoftheirrelativelylowerproficiencylevelsandlackoflanguageexposureintheircommunities.
