SocialStatus Socialstatusreferstothedegreeofpower,influence,andprestigeanindividualhasinagivensocialgroup.Highschoolstudentsarecontinuouslyengagedinaquestforsocialstatus,whichmayinvolveestablishingandmaintainingrelationshipswithpeersthatenhancetheirstatus.Students'socialstatusisdeterminedbyvariousfactors,includingacademicachievements,athleticism,attractiveness,socialskills,familybackground,andsocioeconomicstatus.Additionally,students'socialstatustriggerssentimentsofachievement,self-worth,andsocialcomparison. Self-esteem Self-esteemreferstoanindividual'sevaluationoftheirworthinessandcompetenceinvariousdomainsoflife.Highself-esteemispositivelyassociatedwithbettermentalhealthoutcomes,academicachievements,andpositivefutureexpectations.Contrastingly,lowself-esteemisapredictorofdepression,anxiety,socialanxiety,andpooracademicperformance.Theextenttowhichastudentperceivesthemselvestobevaluableandcompetentaffectstheirabilitytonavigatesocialsituationsandmaintainhealthyrelationships. FearofNegativeEvaluation Thefearofnegativeevaluation(FNE)isthefearofbeingscrutinized,judged,andcriticizedbyothers.StudentswithhighFNEareconcernedabouttheimpressionstheymakeonothersandmayavoidorwithdrawfromsocialsituationsthatentailsocialevaluation.FNEinhibitsone'sabilitytoengageinsocialinteraction,assertiveness,andrisk-takingbehaviors.Additionally,FNEisassociatedwithsocialanxiety,depression,andlowself-esteem.
