Introduction Languageisafundamentalaspectofcommunication,anditisvitalforpeopletobeabletocommunicateeffectivelyinmultiplelanguages,particularlyintoday’sglobalizedworld.Vocationalcollegestudents,astheypreparetoentertheworkforce,needtocommunicateclearlyandeffectivelyindifferentlanguages,includingEnglish,tosucceedintheirchosencareers.Toachievethis,studentsmustdevelopcross-culturalcommunicationabilities,whichareessentialinaglobalizedworldwherepeoplefromdifferentcountriesandculturesinteractandworktogether(Yamashita,2010). Englishisacriticallanguageininternationalcommunicationandisusedextensivelyinvariousfields,includingbusiness,science,politics,andeducation,amongothers.Therefore,improvingEnglishproficiencyiscrucialforvocationalcollegestudentsincontemporarysociety.Fortunately,EnglishnewspaperscanserveasausefultoolforimprovingEnglishproficiency,andthis,inturn,canhelpstudentsenhancecross-culturalcommunicationabilities(Shen,2018). ThisempiricalstudyaimedtoinvestigatetheroleofEnglishnewspapersinpromotingthecross-culturalcommunicationabilitiesofvocationalcollegestudents,withthehopeofprovidinginsightsthatcouldhelpbothstudentsandinstructorsintheireffortstowardsbettercommunicationinEnglish.
