Introduction: Languageproficiencyisessentialforstudents'academicsuccessandfutureopportunities.Amongthefourlanguageskills,readingcomprehensionisparticularlycrucialasitlaysthefoundationforlearninginothersubjectareas.However,traditionalapproachestoteachingreadingoftenfocusonisolatedsentencesorparagraphs,overlookingtheimportanceofdiscourseanalysis.Thispaperaimstoexploretheimplementationofdiscourse-basedreadinginprimaryschoolEnglishteaching,aimingtoenhancestudents'readingcomprehensionskillsandoveralllanguageproficiency. 1.ImportanceofDiscourseAnalysis: Discourseanalysisreferstothestudyofmeaningfulunitsoflanguagebeyondthesentencelevel,includingparagraphs,conversations,andtexts.Understandingdiscoursestructureandorganizationaidsstudentsincomprehendingtextseffectively.Discourse-basedreadinginstructionprovidesstudentswiththenecessarytoolstoidentifythemainidea,infermeaningfromcontext,andmakeconnectionsbetweenideasandinformation. 2.StrategiesforDiscourse-BasedReadingInstruction: a.Pre-readingActivities:Engagingstudentsinactivitiessuchaspredicting,brainstorming,andactivatingpriorknowledgeenablesthemtomakeconnectionsbetweentheirexistingknowledgeandthetext.Thisactivatestheirbackgroundknowledgeandfacilitatescomprehension. b.During-readingActivities:Teacherscanguidestudentsthroughthetextbyusingstrategieslikesummarizing,qu
