ChannelImpactonIncorrectMemorization Forstudentstoprocessinformationcorrectly,therearetwosignificantchannelsofinformationthroughwhichthebrainreceivesinformation:thelinguisticandvisualchannels.Channeleffectsarethecognitivephenomenawherebytheattentionofthebraintothelinguisticorvisualinformationaffectstheaccuracyoftheinformationbeingmemorized.Insimpleterms,incorrectusageofthetwochannelscanaffectthequalityofmemorystorageandlearningprocess. Forinstance,althoughaccurateteachingandacorrectunderstandingofphonemicsoundsaidinEnglishlanguagememorization,it'sthestudents'potentialtorelatethephoneticsoundtotheproperwordthatenablesthemtoendurememorization.Thechanneleffectsthatoccurinthelinguisticchannelinvolvelearningtheproperpronunciationsofwords,whichallowsstudentstoverbalizeandrecitethewordscorrectly.Ontheotherhand,channeleffectsinthevisualchannelinvolveunderstandingwrittenletters,visualizingtheshapeofwords,andcorrelatingtheirmeanings.Forsomestudents,thevisualchannelmaybemoreeffectiveinmemorizingEnglishwordsratherthanthelinguisticschannel.Thus,theyshouldfocusmoreonthegraphicalrepresentationofthewordsthanthepronunciationofthewords.Thisinformationprocessingstrategyisdependent
