从目的论角度看时政新闻的英译 Introduction Withthedevelopmentofglobalization,thedemandfornewsreportingininternationalmediahasincreasedsteadilyinrecentyears.Internationalnewsreporting,especiallythetranslationofcurrentaffairsnews,isbecomingincreasinglyimportantasitplaysanimportantroleinthedisseminationofinformationandpromotingmutualunderstandingamongdifferentcountries.Englishisthemostwidelyusedlanguageintheworld,andtherefore,Englishtranslationiscrucialininternationalnewsreporting.Inthispaper,wewillexplorethetranslationofcurrentaffairsnewsfromafunctionalperspectiveandhowthepurposeaffectsthetranslationprocess. FunctionalPerspectiveofTranslation Functionalismtheorystatesthatatranslationshouldservethesamefunctionastheoriginaltext.Thatis,thetranslatorshouldaimtoreproducethecommunicativeintentionofthesourcetext(ST)inthetargettext(TT).AccordingtoReiss(1971),therearethreeprimaryfunctionsoftranslation:informativefunction,expressivefunction,andoperativefunction.Thesefunctionscanbeappliedtothetranslationofcurrentaffairsnews. InformativeFunction Theinformativefunctionoftranslationisconcernedwithtransmittinginformationaccuratelyandobjectively.Currentaffairsnewsaimstoinformreadersabouteventshappeningaroundtheworld,andtherefore,itiscrucialthatthetranslationaccuratelyconveystheinformationtothereader.Thetranslatormustretainthefactualmeaningofthesourcetext,avoidinganysubjectiveinterpretationordistortionoftheinformation.Inaddition,thetranslatormustensurethattheTTisasaccessibleandcomprehensibleasthesourcetexttothetargetaudience. ExpressiveFunction Theexpressivefunctionoftranslationisconcernedwithconveyingtheemotionalorculturalaspectsofthesourcetext.Incurrentaffairsnewstranslation,thetranslatormayencounterculturalorlinguisticdifferencesbetweenthesourceandtargetlanguages.Therefore,thetranslatormustbeawareofthesedifferencesandaccuratelyconveytheculturalandlinguisticnuancesintheTT.Thisfunctionensuresthatreadersfromdifferentculturalbackgroundsareabletounderstandtheinformationpresentedinthenews.
