Introduction: Debrisflowsarefast-moving,highlydestructivemixtureofwater,sediment,andotherdebris.Theyoccurinmountainousregionswithsteepslopesandanabundanceofloosematerials.Theoccurrenceofdebrisflowsisparticularlyfrequentinseismicareasduetothedestabilizingeffectsofearthquakes.TheXiongjiaGullyinShimianCounty,SichuanProvince,hasexperiencedseveralinstancesofdebrisflowblockageandbursting,leadingtoseveredamagetodownstreamareas.Thisstudyaimstoinvestigatethecharacteristicsandmechanismsoftheseeventsinordertoenhancedisastermanagementstrategies. Methodology: 1.FieldInvestigations:DetailedfieldsurveysoftheXiongjiaGullyanditssurroundingareaswillbeconducted.Thetopography,geology,andhydrologicalconditionswillbethoroughlyexaminedtoassessthefactorscontributingtodebrisflowblockageandbursting. 2.DemographicAnalysis:Localhistoricalrecordsandinterviewswillbeusedtogatherinformationonpastdebrisflowevents,includingtheseverity,duration,andimpacts.Thisdatawillbeinstrumentalinunderstandingthecharacteristicsandmechanismsinvolvedindebrisflowblockageandbursting. 3.LaboratoryTesting:Samplingfromthedebrisflowdepositswillbeconducted,andlaboratoryexperimentswillbeconductedtoinvestigatethephysicalpropertiesofthesedimentsinvolvedinblockageformationandburstinitiation.
