Introduction Stonefruits,suchaspeachandplum,arewidelygrownandwidelyconsumedaroundtheworld.Thesefruitsareimportantfortheirnutritionalvalueandeconomicsignificance.However,stonefruitproductionisoftenlimitedbyvariousdiseasescausedbyfungalpathogenssuchasBotrytiscinerea,Moniliniaspp.,andRhizopusspp.Thesediseasescancausesignificantlossesinyieldandquality,whichhavepromptedthedevelopmentofnewstrategiestoenhancethediseaseresistanceofstonefruits. Plantdefensemechanismsagainstfungalpathogensinvolvetheinductionofavarietyofdefense-relatedgenes,includingpathogenesis-relatedgenes(PRgenes),whichencodeproteinsthatareinvolvedintheplant'sdefenseresponse.Thesegenescanbeinducedbyvariousbioticandabioticstresses,suchaspathogeninfection,mechanicaldamage,andexposuretoplanthormonesandsignalingcompounds. Yeastantagonisticbacteriaandexogenoussalicylicacid(SA)havebeenstudiedextensivelyfortheirabilitytoinducetheexpressionofDRRGsandenhancetheresistanceofplantstovariouspathogens.Yeastantagonisticbacteriaareagroupofbeneficialmicrobesthatcanproduceavarietyofsecondarymetabolitesandenzymesthatareinvolvedinplantdefenseresponses.ExogenousSAisawell-knowninducerofplantdefenseresponsesandhasbeenshowntoenhancetheexpressionofDRRGsinmanyplantspecies.
