Introduction Transit-OrientedDevelopment(TOD)isaconceptthataimstocreatevibrant,mixed-useneighbourhoodsthatarecentredaroundpublictransportinfrastructure.Theconceptisbasedonthebeliefthatgoodpublictransportationsystemsarekeycomponentsofsuccessfulcommunities.TODattemptstocreatesustainablelivingconditionsandofferefficientsolutionsfordailycommutingwithinacity,reducingcardependencyintheprocess.TheaimofthispaperistoexploretheimpactofTODoncommuterbehaviourintheTyneandWearregionintheUK. TyneandWearurbanregion TyneandWearisametropolitanareathatcoversanareaofapproximately2,600km2,withapopulationofabout1millionpeople.Theregioniscomposedoffivemetropolitandistricts,namely:Sunderland,Gateshead,NewcastleuponTyne,SouthTynesideandNorthTyneside.Theareahasundergonesignificantregenerationoverthepast20years,withnewretail,leisure,andhousingdevelopments.TyneandWearhasawell-establishedpublictransportationsystem,includingbuses,trains,andtrams.
