Introduction Heatstressisacommonenvironmentalstressfactorthathasaprofoundimpactonthehealth,growth,andproductionperformanceofpoultryanimals.Pekingducksandegg-layingducksaretwoeconomicallyimportantduckspeciesthatarewidelydistributedthroughouttheworld.Heatstresshasbeenreportedtohavenegativeeffectsonduckgrowth,feedintake,eggproduction,andimmunefunction,whichcanleadtoeconomiclossesforfarmers.Thehypothalamic-pituitary-adrenalaxis(HPA)isawell-knownphysiologicalpathwaythatmediatesthestressresponseinpoultry.Inparticular,theneuropeptideY(NPY)systemandcholecystokinin(CCK)systemhavebeenimplicatedinthestressresponseofbirds.NPYandCCKareinvolvedinregulatingfeedingbehaviorandenergymetabolism.Inaddition,NPYanditsreceptors,NPY1RandNPY5R,havebeenshowntobeinvolvedintheregulationofstressandanxietyinpoultry.However,littleisknownabouttheeffectofacuteheatstressontheexpressionofNPY,NPY5R,andCCKgenesinducks. Materialsandmethods Experimentalanimals Atotalof30Pekingducksand30egg-layingducks(8weeksold)wereobtainedfromalocalduckfarmandkeptundernormalconditionsforoneweekpriortotheexperiment. Experimentaldesign Theducksweredividedintotwogroups:controlgroupandheatstressgroup(n=15pergroup).Theducksintheheatstressgroupweresubjectedtoatemperatureof35°Candarelativehumidityof60%for3hours,whilethecontrolgroupwaskeptundernormalconditions.
