Background EnglishannotationsareanimportantcomponentofChineselanguagetextbooks.Theyprovidelearnerswithadditionalexplanationsorclarificationofkeyconcepts,grammarpoints,andvocabularyitems.Englishannotationshavebecomeincreasinglypopularinrecentyears,asmoreandmorenon-nativespeakersofChinesehavebeguntolearnthelanguage.EnglishannotationsareparticularlyusefulforlearnerswhohavelimitedproficiencyinChineseorwhoarenotfamiliarwiththeChineselanguagestructure. ResearchonEnglishAnnotationsinChineseLanguageTeachingMaterials Gao(2017)conductedastudyontheuseofEnglishannotationsinChineselanguageteachingmaterials.Theresearchfocusedontwoquestions:1)WhattypesofEnglishannotationsareincludedinChineselanguagetextbooks?2)WhatistheeffectivenessofEnglishannotationsinChineselanguageteachingmaterials? ThestudyfoundthatthereareseveraltypesofEnglishannotationsinChineselanguageteachingmaterials,includingtranslations,explanations,andexamples.TheeffectivenessofEnglishannotationsinChineselanguageteachingmaterialswasfoundtodependonseveralfactors,includingthequalityoftheannotations,thelevelofthelearners,andthetypeofmaterialbeingtaught. Inanotherstudy,Zhang&Wang(2021)exploredtheeffectsofEnglishannotationsontheacquisitionofChinesevocabulary.Theresearchexaminedtheimpactofdifferenttypesofannotationsonlearners’vocabularyacquisition,includingpinyin,translation,andexplanationannotations.Theresultsshowedthattheexplanationannotatio
