大学英语教材中的文化内容研究的中期报告 Introduction: Asglobalizationcontinuestoaccelerate,diverseculturalcontentisbecomingincreasinglyimportantinUniversityEnglishtextbooks.Thepurposeofthismid-termreportistopresenttheprogressmadeinthestudyofculturalcontentinUniversityEnglishtextbooks. Methodology: Thestudyemploysamixed-methodsapproach.Preliminarydatacollectioninvolvedareviewof10UniversityEnglishtextbooksthatwereusedinpreviousstudies.Theculturalcontentofthetextbookswasevaluatedusingcontentanalysismethodology.CulturalcontentwasdefinedasthematerialthatprovidedinsightintotheculturalcontextoftheEnglishlanguage.Toensurethereliabilityofthestudy,twoindependentratersevaluatedtheculturalcontentofeachtextbook. Results: Thereviewof10UniversityEnglishtextbooksindicatedthatculturalcontentwaslimitedtotheintroductionofculturalconcepts,traditions,andcustoms.Therewasadeficiencyofliteraturereflectingthediverseperspectivesofthesocietiesincludedinthetextbooks.Furthermore,therewasalimitedscopeoftopicsregardingtheculturalcontentcovered,namely,ethnicity,language,customs,andtraditions. Discussion: ThefindingssuggestthatculturalcontentinUniversityEnglishtextbooksneedstobeexpandedanddiversified.Culturalcontentshouldnotonlyincludetheintroductionofbroadculturalconceptsbutalsoincorporateavariedarrayofcontemporaryandhistoricalliteraturefromdifferentregionsthatprovideinsightintoculturaldifferencesandcommonalities.Languages,customs,andtraditionsdonotdefineculturaldividesunilaterally.Therefore,topicsshouldexpandbeyondthecurrentlimitedscope. Conclusion: ThefindingssuggestthatculturalcontentinUniversityEnglishtextbookscouldbediversifiedandexpanded.MoreresearchisneededtocollectadditionaldatafromvarioussourcestoreaffirmtheinadequacyofcurrentculturalcontentinUniversityEnglishtextbooks.Therepresentationofvariousculturesisessentialinformingamulticulturalsociety.Englishtextbooksthatenhanceinterculturalcommunicationskillsthroughtheintegrationofrichandvariedculturalcontenthaveanimportantroletoplayinshapingsuchasociety.
